Pastor in Wittenberg
and Luther's confessor, Bugenhagen introduced and created the polity
and order of Lutheran churches in many German territories as well as
in Denmark-Norway. He laid special emphasis on the establishment of
schools, the care of the poor, the reform of worship, and the renewal
of the ministry. In practical terms, Bugenhagen was responsible for
the institutionalizing of Lutheran reform throughout northern Germany
and in Denmark-Norway. Bugenhagen
also assisted in the translation of the German
Bible.
