In Christology the
principal emphasis is on the complete humanity of Christ which is sharply
distinguished from his divine nature. Antiochene theologians strongly
defended the homoousios in order to
protect and exhibit both the divinity and humanity of Christ. Exegetes
of the Antiochene school emphasized a literal and historical interpretation
of the Bible. Theodore of Mopsuestia (c. 350-428) is a representative
theologian. Not all theologians associated by scholars with Antiochene
theology worked in Antioch.
