The Early Church Council of Constantinople I
(381)
The Early Church

Ecumenical council ratifying the work of the Council of Nicea I (325).

This council reaffirmed the decision of the Council of Nicea I (325) which taught that Christ was of the same substance (homoousios) as the Father. Apollinarianism was condemned and the humanity and divinity of Christ were correspondingly asserted. The so-called Nicene Creed stems from this council but was expanded and approved later.
